Christian Bird is an interdisciplinary artist and student attending the University of Chicago. His formative years, spent in a London suburb, were defined by experiences of intense suicidal ideation and anxiety. Having lost his closest friend to suicide at the age of 18, he began his artistic journey as a means to escape and process emotional pain. Bird’s visual work often incorporates found objects in assemblage to challenge notions of physical and emotional waste. These objects have usually been rejected, neglected, or broken in some way and been made available to the public for free. Out of distress and ruination, Bird attempts to create meaning and beauty.
